The best way to protect your family from the effects of a disaster is to be prepared, and have a disaster plan. If you are a pet parent, that plan includes your pets. View the Disaster Preparedness section of this website or Download our Pet Disaster Preparedness brochure to find out what should be included in your pet disaster preparedness and first aid kits, and for additional resources. Check out the Ultimate Guide to Traveling with Pets for tips on transporting your pet.

Pet owners MUST bring the following for each pet when checking into an Emergency Pet Shelter:

  • a pet carrier in which your pet can stand up, turn around and lay down that can be latched closed
  • adequate food, water and necessary medication for your pet
  • paper towels, disinfectant, doggie bags and other cleaning supplies for cleaning up after your pet
  • appropriate identification must be on your pet at all times

All pets must be current on vaccinations. No aggressive animals will be allowed. Owners are expected to provide the care, feeding, medication and cleaning for their pets in an Emergency Pet Shelter during the visitation hours posted.
