The Maui News: Adoption fees lowered as part of ‘Empty the Shelters’ July campaign

Maui Humane Society is reducing adoption fees as it participates in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” campaign starting today through July 31, the shelter announced. Maui Humane Society’s reduced adoption rates during the campaign will include $50 for adult dogs and kittens; $25 for small animals, including guinea pigs and rabbits; and $10 for adult cats.

At a public event at Maui Humane Society held Sunday night, Interim Executive Director Jenny Miller announced that Maui Humane has created a special donation fund to help bring lifesaving care and attention to vulnerable cats and kittens in the shelter’s care. One in five cats or kittens (who are sick, too young or too old) do not leave the shelter alive. KHON2: Opportunity for free spay, neuter clinic returns to Hana

An opportunity for a free spay or neuter clinic is returning for a couple of days through the Maui Humane Society and its partner Good Fix. Maui Humane Society said they are pushing to effectively and humanely control the pet population over time with spayed or neutered clinics. So Hana community members are invited to bring their dogs, cats or any free-roaming cat to Hana High and Elementary School Gymnasium for free same-day surgery. The clinic will take place between June 6 and June 8.

According to the Maui Humane Society, “Trap, Neuter, Return is the humane and successful approach to addressing community cat populations. It saves cats’ lives and is effective in slowly diminishing population numbers, by preventing the vacuum effect.”
