You may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but the senior pups at the Maui humane society are receiving lots of treats! A recent grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization announced that out of almost 400 applicants, the Maui Humane Society was among the winning groups, to save or improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs.

Approaching rain could overwhelm Hawaii roadways
“It is going to be raining cats and dogs here on Maui and unfortunately the shelter really is affected by rain and wind,” said Katie Shannon, Maui Humane Society marketing director. “And so we have put boards up on our kennels already to prepare, to ensure the dogs are going to be dry,” Shannon said.

The Maui Humane Society is sending out a Save our Shelter (SOS) call as its shelters exceed kennel capacity. The humane society said it currently has 105 dogs in their care looking for homes while only having a kennel capacity for 40 dogs. In order to make additional space, dogs have been paired in kennels but you can lend a helping hand through the SOS Foster program.

Maui Humane Society is struggling to find pet parents. They are desperately trying to find homes for not only their dogs, but their cats, bunny rabbits, even guinea pigs. “If you don’t have an outdoor space, cats are great to have. Same with our guinea pigs and our rabbits,” said Maui Humane Society Marketing and Communications Director Katie Shannon.
