Maui Humane Society is reducing adoption fees as it participates in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” campaign starting today through July 31, the shelter announced. Maui Humane Society’s reduced adoption rates during the campaign will include $50 for adult dogs and kittens; $25 for small animals, including guinea pigs and rabbits; and $10 for adult cats.
From July 6 to July 31, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Summer National “Empty the Shelters” will occur at more than 335 shelters in 44 states with pets available for adoption for just $50 or less, including Maui Humane Society.
Now through January 2, you can make a positive impact in Maui’s community by becoming a “Foster for the Holidays” which provides a temporary warm, cozy, and safe environment home for a pet in need during the holiday season. Maui Humane Society currently has 340 animals in their care, with over 100 dogs.
There’s another animal overpopulation issue on Maui. Maui Humane Society says it’s actually a guinea pig and rabbit problem, and right now, has over 50 of the small animals. It has capacity for only 20.
The BISSELL Pet Foundation is hosting its “Empty the Shelters” event and the Maui Humane Society will be participating. This summer adoption event will start Monday, July 11 through Sunday, July 31. All adoptions are by donation only.

Maui Humane Society is teaming up with national nonprofit Petco Love and Skechers to focus on the fun in fostering pets, which is lifesaving and especially critical during the busy summer months. Fostering is free, and it can begin on the same day. Maui Humane Society is participating in the nationwide Foster Open House:
June 25, 11:30 a.m.: For those interested in fostering dogs, puppies or Wings of Aloha fosters. Wings of Aloha is a donation-funded program that takes shelter animals and flies them to the mainland United States for adoption.
June 26, 11:30 a.m.: For those interested in fostering cats, kittens or critters (bunnies and guinea pigs)
Maui Humane Society will also join shelters nationwide for the National Foster Pet Open House event by inviting the public to visit the shelter on Saturday, June 25 and 26 at 11:30 a.m. for an interactive foster meet-and-greet party for two-and four-legged friends. Those who attend will learn about the types of fostering available (long term, short term, emergency), meet available foster dogs, cats, kittens and critters, and can leave with a foster animal that day.
Join us at Petco in Kahului from 11am-1pm on Saturday, April 16th for a mobile adoption event! The Community Outreach team along with dedicated volunteers will be there with some of our adoptable dogs and ready to answer questions you may have. Along with the pups, there will be cats and kittens ready to be adopted and walk straight into your heart and your ohana!
