Hawaii News Now: Got some extra space? Overcrowded Hawaii animal shelters need your help

Two Hawaii animal shelters are asking for the public’s help as they grapple with overpopulation issues. The Maui Humane Society also says it currently has 105 dogs in its care, but its capacity is 40. Dogs are being paired in kennels to deal with the space issue. The shelter is asking the public to provide temporary homes for dogs. Anyone can do so through its “SOS Foster, “Paws-to-Adopt” (10-day adoption trial), and “Dog on Demand” programs.

Hawaii News Now: After months of rehab, dog attacked with machete is ready to find his forever home!

WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Maui judge has denied a woman’s request to be released from jail after she allegedly attacked a dog with a machete. The 7-year-old dog, named Tommy Boy, suffered severe injuries and is still in an animal hospital. He underwent more than five hours of emergency surgery back in August. Maui Humane Society said bone-deep gashes were left from the dogs face all the way to the tip of his tail, which was ultimately amputated.

It asks people to donate money to animal shelters or rescues in White’s name on Jan. 17 ― the day she would’ve turned 100. Maui Humane Society has a cat named after Betty White’s character in Golden Girls, Rose Nylund. She is still available for adoption!
