Maui Humane Society is reducing adoption fees as it participates in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” campaign starting today through July 31, the shelter announced. Maui Humane Society’s reduced adoption rates during the campaign will include $50 for adult dogs and kittens; $25 for small animals, including guinea pigs and rabbits; and $10 for adult cats.
From July 6 to July 31, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Summer National “Empty the Shelters” will occur at more than 335 shelters in 44 states with pets available for adoption for just $50 or less, including Maui Humane Society.
Now through January 2, you can make a positive impact in Maui’s community by becoming a “Foster for the Holidays” which provides a temporary warm, cozy, and safe environment home for a pet in need during the holiday season. Maui Humane Society currently has 340 animals in their care, with over 100 dogs.
There’s another animal overpopulation issue on Maui. Maui Humane Society says it’s actually a guinea pig and rabbit problem, and right now, has over 50 of the small animals. It has capacity for only 20.
Maui Humane Society is holding a FREE rabbit vaccination clinic at the shelter on August 6th to help prevent any rabbits acquiring the fatal RHDV2 disease. The BISSELL Pet Foundation is hosting its “Empty the Shelters” event and the Maui Humane Society will be participating. This summer adoption event will start Monday, July 11 through Sunday, July 31. All adoptions are by donation only.

Maui Humane Society has received substantial surrender increases in guinea pigs and rabbits, unlike anything they have seen before. The shelter has surpassed capacity and temporary habitats have been built to accommodate the unforeseen increase. Maui Humane Society is offering a free vaccination clinic to the public for rabbits on July 23rd from 9am-3pm at Maui Humane Society.
4EverPets will be at Hāna Farmer’s Market on Friday, July 29 from 12-4pm. Dr. Gaines will be administering vaccinations (for dogs, cats, and rabbits) and microchips and the 4EverPets Team will be distributing food & flea medicine.
