Through our contract with Maui County, Maui Humane Society provides essential animal services on Molokaʻi, specifically for stray dogs.

Our services include:

Animal Control for Stray Dogs: Responding to reports of stray, sick, injured, or at-risk dogs to ensure their safety and well-being.
Humane Enforcement: Enforcing Maui County’s Title 6 animal ordinances to protect animals and the public.
Temporary Animal Sheltering: Providing short-term care for stray dogs until they can be reunited with their families or rehomed.
Pet Retention Services: Supporting pet owners with resources to help them keep and care for their animals.

Reports of lost, sick or injured dogs, as well as cases of suspected animal cruelty, can be shared with MHS’ Humane Enforcement Dispatch by calling 808-877-3680 ext. 222 or submitting an online report.

- Humane Enforcement Officer (1 full-time position): Responds to routine and emergency calls for service, handles intake of dogs, conducts investigations of suspected animal cruelty, and enforces State and County laws on animal care and control. Starts at $24/hour.
- Animal Care & Enrichment Specialist (1 full-time position & 1 part-time position – flexible): Provides proper care for all animals housed in the animal control kennels. Starts at $19/hour.

Can Maui Humane Society provide veterinary care or humane euthanasia to owned pets?

At this time, Maui Humane Society is unable to provide veterinary care or humane euthanasia to owned pets on Molokaʻi. Maui Humane Society is exploring options to provide basic and preventative care.

Can a dog be surrendered to Maui Humane Society?

At this time, Maui Humane Society is unable to accept owner-surrendered animals. The Maui County contract covers care for stray animals only.

How can Maui Humane Society help struggling pet owners on Molokaʻi?

Maui Humane Society will extend its pet retention program, 4EverPets, to Moloka`i residents. This program provides resources, food, supplies, etc. to pet parents in need of support, in an effort to keep pets and people together and prevent surrender.
