What Is It?

You’re pretty sure you want to adopt an adorable furry friend you just met, but you want to be sure that it’s a good fit. Paws to Adopt is a 10-day adoption trial program for prospective animal parents that lets you take your potential forever friend home before committing to adoption. The program is applicable for all animals that are at least 6 months old.

If you aren’t sure if your would-be fur baby will fit in with your lifestyle or get along with your other pets, this is a perfect way to see if it’s going to work out! It’s a “no strings attached” program, meaning you can bring back your furry friend at any time in that 10-day period if it doesn’t work out.

Why We Offer It

Don’t feel bad if it doesn’t quite work out with your furry friend. Sometimes bringing them back to us is the right decision for both you and the animal. The upside is that our animals still benefit from having a break from the shelter, even if it’s only for a few days.

We are also able to use any new information you gather to find the best suited home for each Paws to Adopt animal based on their individual likes, needs, and personalities. Our goal is to set everyone up for success to make the transition from shelter life to forever home as smooth as possible.

The Goods

We want to help make your Paws to Adopt trial easy. Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to supply prospective parents with:

A small deposit is requested at pickup for items such as the leash and collar and is returned to you upon return of loaned items. Ideally, you will have your home prepped with essential items stocked before opting to do Paws to Adopt, because you’re hoping to keep your furry friend.

Find available animals here on our adoption page.

Being able to do an adoption trial with Duke was so helpful for us! We wanted to make sure that he would do well on his own at home during times when we were out, as we are very busy! He has been such a sweet, loving dog, and has really taken to the oldest son. With a little extra time, we fell in love with Duke and made the right choice in following through with adoption.
