From the Doghouse to the Penthouse
Dogs, beautiful Maui views, and a 5-star hotel?! This year, we’re putting a VIP twist on our annual slumber party fundraiser. Starting April 1, 2021, register on QGiv as a participant and start fundraising for a chance to spend the night at a luxury Wailea resort with a fur friend from the Maui Humane Society. The Wags to Riches sleepover takes place on May 1, 2021.
What is QGiv?
QGiv is a third-party fundraising platform that allows you to easily set up and customize your own donation page as a Wags to Riches participant! You can set a fundraising goal, track your donation progress, and share your Participant Page with friends, family, and coworkers to encourage them to help you reach your donation goal.
Who receives the donations raised through Wags to Riches?
Maui Humane Society receives all donations raised by participants. We put those donations towards the costs of running the shelter, including medical procedures for animals in need, food and kennel items, utilities like water and electricity, and other operational costs.
How far could my donation go?
The answer is: potentially very far! Below are examples of what each donation amount can cover for our animals.
How do I sign up to compete in the Wags to Riches Slumber Party?
Use this link to sign up and start fundraising through Qgiv.
I need help setting up my fundraiser on QGiv.
If I raise $2,000, does that guarantee me a spot?
No. The top fundraisers will have the option to stay at a hotel with a shelter dog for the night. The remaining spots that are available will be filled by participants who raised the most money by 12pm HST on April 30, 2021.
What if I raise the minimum goal of $2,000 but I do not get a spot?
If you do not earn a spot at the shelter, we still want to showcase you! We will reach out to those participants who raised the minimum goal and set up a time for you to be a part of our live event from the comfort of your own home!
What if I do not meet the minimum fundraising goal of $2,000?
If you do not meet the minimum fundraising goal, we are unable to accommodate you at the shelter the night of the event. However, we hope you will tune in to our live event where we will give shout-outs to all who were involved, because YOU made it all possible!
When will the winners be announced?
Winners will be announced on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 12pm HST.
How can I see how my fundraising is stacking up against other participants?
On your QGiv dashboard, there is a leaderboard that shows how you rank amongst other fundraisers. The more you raise, the higher your name will move up on the leaderboard.
Can I still fundraise if I do not have Facebook?
Yes. Participants are not required to have a Facebook or fundraise through Facebook. QGiv allows participants and donors alike to fundraise and donate through their platform alone. However, if you have a Facebook, you may link your fundraiser to QGiv so you can track all of your donations in one place.
How do I link my Facebook Fundraiser to my QGiv personal fundraising page?
Visit your Fundraising Dashboard to link your Facebook Fundraiser to your QGiv fundraising page (photo sample below).
If someone wants to donate cash or a check to my fundraiser, will it be captured on Qgiv?
Yes. When you are logged on to your fundraising page through QGiv, clock on the “My Donations” tab on the left hand side. Here, you will be able to add any cash or check donations you receive. You will still need to turn in any offline donations to Merissa at the Maui Humane Society.
How do I turn in donations made offline to my fundraiser?
Please contact Merissa, Events Coordinator, at 808-856-5215 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Can I send an email directly from QGiv to my contact list?
Yes. On the “Share Event” tab from your Fundraising Dashboard (pictured below), you may share your personal fundraising page with your email contacts. You may either customize your own email or use one of the templates Maui Humane Society has provided for you.
How do I donate to an individual's fundraising campaign?
If you do not have the individual’s link to their personal fundraising page, you can still donate to their fundraiser! Start by clicking the Donate button at the top from the Wags to Riches homepage. This will take you to the Donate page. From there, you will want to change the “Donation Recipient.” Type the person’s name you are looking for in the search box and click “select.”
How many kennels and hotel rooms are there?
We will have 12 kennels in the dog area, 2 rooms in the Cat Ohana, a “family tent” area in Freddie’s yard, and also 3 VIP hotel rooms available.
Are we decorating kennels? Will any supplies be provided?
The participants are able to decorate their kennels however they would like, this year we are setting the theme of a luxury hotel. Supplies will need to be provided by participants.
Will there be food served?
Whether you are staying at one of the luxury hotels or in a luxury style kennel, MHS will provide food and beverages for participants. Please note, food items are not allowed inside the kennels out of safety for our animals. If you have particular dietary needs or just want to bring your own snacks, we can store food that you bring in a fridge if needed.
Do I get a choice between sleeping with a cat or a dog?
Yes. Participants will have their pick at sleeping with either a dog or cat. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate everyone’s request. Top fundraisers will have first choice in their selection. Please note, participants will not choose specific animals – MHS will select which animal a participant will stay with.
My family would like to participate, how many people can sleep in a kennel?
The kennel can only sleep one person. There is an opportunity to earn a “Family Tent” located inside Freddie’s yard that can host 2 adults and 2 kids.
Can I bring my own dog?
No. Outside animals are not allowed in the shelter.
Is there a minimum age to participate?
18 unless you earn the one family tent location inside Freddie’s yard (yup… just you and a giant African Sulcuta tortoise!)
Will I have the option to sleep at the shelter as opposed to the hotel if I am one of the top fundraisers?
Yes. Top fundraisers will have the option to either sleep at one of Maui’s luxury hotels or sleep at the shelter.
Will I get to choose which animal I get to sleep in the kennel/hotel with?
No. MHS will pair you up with a shelter animal that we believe will be the best fit for you. If you have concerns or limitations on the size of the animal you feel comfortable with, please reach out to Merissa at email@example.com.
What is the size of the kennel I will be sleeping in?
12ft L x 4ft W x 7ft H
Can I bring a guest?
Each participant may bring one guest with them to help them set up and to hangout at the event. Set up begins at noon on May 1st. All guests will need to leave by 10:30pm.
Will the animal I am staying with be available for adoption?
The animals that participants will be staying with may be available for adoption. Some animals may have an adoption hold or may be flying to the mainland for a guaranteed adoption through our Wings of Aloha program. If you fall in love with your kennel mate, MHS can look into placing an adoption hold for you.
What are the COVID protocols?
Maui Humane Society’s first priority is the safety of its animals, employees, volunteers and the community. We will be ensuring everything is deep cleaned prior to the event and will be following Covid-safe protocols including: social distancing, requiring masks be worn when moving around the shelter, creating space between kennel participants, providing hand sanitizer in convenient locations, and avoiding groups congregating together.
How do I set up a text-to give code so donors can text a donation to my personal fundraising page?
Participants may set up a personalized code that they can share with their friends and family that will allow them to text and send a donation directly to your fundraising page. Please note that you must save the text code (Photo highlighted below) that you created before clicking “I’m Finished.” Please also note, the more simple your code, the better. Donors will still need to text the event code “Wags” with a space after with your personalized code, in order for it to go to your page. For example, if I set my code as “wagsmp,” I would tell donors to text “Wags wagsmp” to 50155. Please see below for full instructions and examples.
