Hawaii News Now: Good girl! After 396-day shelter stay, ‘Lilo’ the poi dog finds a forever home
A shelter dog on the Valley Isle has finally found a forever home after over a year. The 6-year-old poi dog named Lilo was brought to the Maui Humane Society as a stray last year. Lilo went back and forth between foster care and the Maui Humane Society for a total of 396 days before her foster mom adopted her on Saturday.

A recent grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization announced that out of almost 400 applicants, the Maui Humane Society was among the winning groups, to save or improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs.

Presented by Good Fix, which is a program of the international Greater Good Charities, it was held with the assistance of HARF, the Maui Humane Society and community volunteers. The 15-person Good Fix medical crew was comprised of personnel from around the Mainland, as well as one from Mexico.
The Maui News: Adoption fees lowered as part of ‘Empty the Shelters’ July campaign
Maui Humane Society is reducing adoption fees as it participates in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” campaign starting today through July 31, the shelter announced. Maui Humane Society’s reduced adoption rates during the campaign will include $50 for adult dogs and kittens; $25 for small animals, including guinea pigs and rabbits; and $10 for adult cats.
