Slappy Cakes Maui invites the community to its First Annual “Paws & Pancakes” fundraiser on Saturday, March 14, 2026, benefiting the Maui Humane Society. For the entire day, 10% of all pancake sales will be donated to the Maui Humane Society to support animal rescue, shelter care, and adoption programs across Maui.

An alleged thief drove through the shelter’s gates, shattered the doors and windows, and pulled out the wires of the newly-upgraded surveillance system. The shelter said the thief left with cash from the front office before police arrived. Fortunately, no animals were hurt.

Aspen adores the simple joys: hunting bugs, batting around toys, nibbling on cat grass and playing with hair ties (her favorite!). While she’s not a fan of being picked up, she absolutely melts for cheek scratches, gentle pets and a relaxing brushing session.
The organization has teamed up with Greater Good Charities to spay and neuter roughly 1,000 animals in four days – helping Maui put a dent in its overpopulation of animals.
“Unfortunately, we’ve been dealing with capacity struggles for — gosh — years now,” Ivankic said. “But it just keeps adding up. We’ve gotten to a point where our capacity for care is just stretched beyond what is safe for our team to manage.”
Life in the shelter has been hard on Usher. He’s struggling in the busy environment and truly needs a calm, comforting home by Oct. 30. Usher would do best in a home with another calm and friendly female dog to help him feel safe and confident.
