The Maui Humane Society’s 2024 Pet Calendar Photo Contest is back. Donations from the contest are used to help shelter animals at the Maui Humane Society. This year’s theme is “Aloha Spirit” and pet owners are encouraged to share why “we’re lucky to live in Hawaii.” All entries are required to be submitted horizontally.
KITV4: Animal shelters across Hawaii plea for help due to overcrowding
HONOLULU (KITV4) — Shelters across the state and the nation are urgently looking for foster homes to help with overcrowding in their facilities. Maui Humane Society says it is also in a similar crisis, with over 130 dogs in care and only 40 kennels. For the first time in years, it too may have to euthanize animals due to extreme overcrowding.

Maui Humane Society is asking for witnesses to come forward. “There are charges that they could be faced with and have to go to court. They could face jail time and fines for this as well,” said Humane Enforcement Officer Erin Shapiro. “I wouldn’t give up hope. There are still ways that the community could come together and maybe figure out who did it.”

The Maui News: Free spay, neuter clinic set for Hana
Maui Humane Society is partnering with Greater Good Charities’ Good Fix program to provide a free, three-day spay and neuter clinic in Hana from Tuesday to Thursday. Hana community members can bring their dogs, cats or any free-roaming cat to Hana High & Elementary School Gymnasium for free same-day surgery.

An opportunity for a free spay or neuter clinic is returning for a couple of days through the Maui Humane Society and its partner Good Fix. Maui Humane Society said they are pushing to effectively and humanely control the pet population over time with spayed or neutered clinics. So Hana community members are invited to bring their dogs, cats or any free-roaming cat to Hana High and Elementary School Gymnasium for free same-day surgery. The clinic will take place between June 6 and June 8.

But he’s at-risk for being euthanized. “We have never come out to the community before to talk about euthanasia the way that we are now, and what we’re trying to do is increase our transparency to really showcase, we need help,” said Director of Marketing, Katie Shannon.
