BISSELL Pet Foundation is bringing hope to homeless pets this holiday season with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” event from Dec. 1 – 17, 2023. On Maui, The Maui Humane Society is participating in the adoption event and is offering reduced adoption fees on all animals during the event.

Hawaii News Now: Good girl! After 396-day shelter stay, ‘Lilo’ the poi dog finds a forever home
A shelter dog on the Valley Isle has finally found a forever home after over a year. The 6-year-old poi dog named Lilo was brought to the Maui Humane Society as a stray last year. Lilo went back and forth between foster care and the Maui Humane Society for a total of 396 days before her foster mom adopted her on Saturday.
PETCO Mobile Adoption Event August 11th
Maui Humane Society will bring adoptable critters to meet the Maui Community at our monthly Mobile Adoption Event at our local Petco Store in Kahului on Friday August 11th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. We will also have kittens available for adoption in the Cat Habitat just inside the store.

The Maui News: Adoption fees lowered as part of ‘Empty the Shelters’ July campaign
Maui Humane Society is reducing adoption fees as it participates in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” campaign starting today through July 31, the shelter announced. Maui Humane Society’s reduced adoption rates during the campaign will include $50 for adult dogs and kittens; $25 for small animals, including guinea pigs and rabbits; and $10 for adult cats.
Adopt, foster, donate or volunteer: Neighbor island animal shelters need your help
Neighbor island animal shelters say they’re extremely over capacity — and more animals are arriving daily. For now, they’re avoiding euthanasia, but that may change due to the lack of space. The shelter said more animals are being surrendered daily. The most common concerns: No pet-friendly housing or financial struggles.
Nala wants your love: Wags ‘n Whiskers Wednesday
KHON2.com is featuring a dog who’s been waiting a whole year for her forever home. This is nala. The eight-year-old poi dog first stepped into the Maui Humane Society on June 11, 2022 after she was left behind in her home when her family moved out. Nala is currently in a foster home. Her foster family said she’s the sweetest senior pup who loves adventures, sunbathing and taking naps.
KITV4: Animal shelters across Hawaii plea for help due to overcrowding
HONOLULU (KITV4) — Shelters across the state and the nation are urgently looking for foster homes to help with overcrowding in their facilities. Maui Humane Society says it is also in a similar crisis, with over 130 dogs in care and only 40 kennels. For the first time in years, it too may have to euthanize animals due to extreme overcrowding.
