Coming Together for Maui's Pets

In the wake of the devastating Maui wildfire that occurred on August 8, 2023, our hearts go out to all those affected and lives lost. The hundreds of displaced pets, mainly dogs and cats now face uncertainty. As part of Hawaii’s pet industry, we at Shear Magic Pet Salon believe it is our duty to raise awareness about this unfortunate event and rally support from the pet industry and caring individuals.

The Maui wildfire has left a trail of destruction, forcing countless families to evacuate their homes, with no time to get home and gather their belongings. Many pet owners even faced the heartbreaking fact of not being able to rescue their furry companions due to the intense fast-moving fire fueled by hurricane-force winds, downed power lines and no cellphone services. Those who were able to get their pets out have been displaced from their homes in Lahaina and now face temporary housing options such as donated hotel rooms and Airbnbs, and the homes of friends and family—places that are often unable to accommodate their pets.

This has resulted in an urgent need for assistance in providing vet care, supplies and shelter for these displaced animals, some with burn injuries. The Maui Humane Society, Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation (HARF), and the Maui Strong Fund have been working tirelessly to address this crisis. They need our support to continue providing the necessary ongoing care and help these pets with their families.

We are calling upon the pet industry and compassionate individuals to join hands in supporting these organizations and the animals affected by this tragedy. By making a donation, no matter how small, you can directly contribute to the well-being of these displaced pets and help support their families.

Here are three organizations that are at the forefront of this relief effort:

Maui Humane Society

The Maui Humane Society has been actively involved in rescuing and sheltering animals affected by the wildfire. They provide emergency veterinary care, temporary housing, and facilitate reunions between pets and their owners. To donate, please visit their website at www.mauihumanesociety.org

Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation (HARF)

HARF works tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of animals in Maui and throughout Hawaii. They are actively involved in rescuing and caring for pets affected by the wildfire. To make a donation, please visit their website at www.hawaiianimalrescue.org.

Maui Strong Fund

The Maui Strong Fund aims to provide immediate assistance to those impacted by the wildfire, including pets. By donating to the fund, you can help support the overall recovery efforts in Maui. Contributions can be made by visiting their website at www.mauistrongfund.org.

The devastating Maui wildfire has left a lasting impact on the lives of many, including our pets. It is through our collective efforts and compassion that we can help alleviate the suffering of these displaced animals and aid in their reunification with their families.

Together, we can make a difference and provide a ray of hope for Maui’s affected pets
