On Tuesday, thousands of islanders throughout Hawai’i will be lighting up the sky for the upcoming 4th of July celebration, but one thing to consider is how to keep your pets safe and sane during this holiday.
The Maui Humane Society has issued the following information to help residents keep their furry loved ones safe and sound:
Fireworks are a huge part of July 4th celebrations, but they don’t have to be a huge deal for your pet! Big booms mean, scared dogs, cats and livestock! Below are some tips and advice to keep your pets safe this year:
- Ensure your pet is microchipped and ID tags are worn
- Walk/exercise your dog during daylight hours
- Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound
- Put on some music or TV to mask firework sounds
- Create a quiet space where your animal can feel in control
