Limited Spay/Neuter Appointments Available: Your Help is Needed.

Due to staffing shortages, we can only offer a limited number of spay/neuter surgeries this month. We encourage pet owners to make appointments with their veterinarians to help us meet the community’s needs.

Maui Humane Society is deeply committed to reducing pet overpopulation. In addition to spaying and neutering our shelter animals, we offer appointments for owned pets and community cats. Last year alone, we completed over 7,000 spay/neuter surgeries.

Due to recent staffing changes, we are currently able to offer only a limited number of spay/neuter appointments this month. While these surgeries are generally safe and routine for our experienced veterinarians, all surgeries still carry some risk. To ensure every surgery is performed safely, we need a full team of support staff, and with our current shortage, we must reduce the number of surgeries we can conduct.

We strongly encourage pet owners to make spay/neuter appointments with their own veterinarians. Maui Humane Society cannot be the sole resource for these vital services, and we simply don’t have the capacity to meet the high demand on our own. It takes all of us to solve pet overpopulation here on Maui.

As the only open-intake shelter on the island, we must prioritize the care of animals who have nowhere else to go — the ones without ‘ohanas to advocate for them. We are asking for the community’s support in fighting pet overpopulation, as we are doing our best with the resources we have. Our team is asking for the community’s patience and understanding as we work through this challenging time and actively recruit veterinary staffing support.

Mahalo for helping us continue to prioritize the well-being of our island’s animals.
