Wags N’ Whiskers: Hoku needs a home

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Maui Humane Society is seeking a furever home for long-term resident Hoku.

Hoku is a 9-year-old dog at the Maui Humane Society and has been in the shelter’s care for more than 650 days, making her one of the longest residents in need of a forever home.

Known for her mellow demeanor, Hoku has been fostered by Simone for the past year and a half as they seek a permanent family for her.

In a creative effort to help Hoku find her new home, Simone entered her into the Maui Humane Society’s 2025 calendar contest, hoping that exposure will attract potential adopters.

Hoku enjoys leisurely evening walks, taking her time to explore her surroundings.

She knows basic commands like sit, paw, and down, and has a particular fondness for food.

Described as low maintenance, Hoku is content to nap and keep her companions company.

The Maui Humane Society encourages anyone looking for a gentle and affectionate pet, especially families with older adults, to consider adopting Hoku.

She has waited far too long for a loving home and would make a wonderful addition to any ohana.
