Maui Humane Society Alumni in 2020 American Rescue Dog Show
Airing on the Hallmark Channel Monday, February 17, 2020

Puunene, HI (2/14/20): The Maui Humane Society (MHS), announced today that one of their adopted alumni been chosen to compete in the “2020 American Rescue Dog Show” airing on the Hallmark Channel this weekend. The event, now in its third year, is a two-night special and it is the only canine competition of its kind that focuses the spotlight on dogs adopted from shelters and rescue organizations. The mission of the “2020 American Rescue Dog Show” is to celebrate rescue dogs in a unique competition spotlighting the adorable, quirky and hilarious traits that make dogs perfect in the eyes of those who love them.  MHS Alumni “Boogie” will be competing in the Best in Underbite category along with six other competitors from across the country.

“Boogie” came into the Maui Humane Society last spring with a life-threatening medical condition requiring a risky surgery to insert a liver shunt. The MHS veterinary staff performed this procedure and  he was then placed into a foster home to recover. Jamie-Sue West, who is a volunteer at MHS, and who has fostered nearly 80 animals in the past two years, fostered and then adopted “Boogie” thereby becoming a “foster failure” for the very first time! Boogie now lives in Kihei with Sue and his “brothers” Spaz and Monroe.

”We love our volunteers and foster families and we are so happy for Boogie and his mom Jamie Sue,” said Steve MacKinnon, CEO, Maui Humane Society. “We wish them both the best of luck as they compete in the 2020 American Rescue Dog Show this weekend and we hope it serves as another example why anyone considering getting a pet should always consider adoption first.”

The “2020 American Rescue Dog Show” is hosted by Rebecca Romijn and Rodney Peete, and they are joined by co-hosts Ross Mathews and Larissa Wohl as they cover all the four-legged action ringside and backstage. The event will highlight the heartfelt traits and benefits of mixed breeds and rescued purebreds and winners will be crowned in each of the 10 categories: Best in Belly Rubs, Couch Potato, Ears, Senior, Snoring, Special needs, Talking, Wiggling, Wrinkles, and of course, Best in Underbite.  The winner from each group will face off in the finals where a panel of celebrity judges will be tasked with deciding which pup will take home the title of Best in Rescue with the  This year’s celebrity judges are pet rescue advocates Gabby Douglas, Kevin Frazier, Jennie Garth, Sandra Lee and Melissa Peterman. Presenting sponsor PEDIGREE brand will be providing a total of $100,000 in grants to the winners’ shelters or rescues through the PEDIGREE Foundation.

The 2020 American Rescue Dog Show airs on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, February 16 and Monday, February 17 at 6pm on Spectrum Cable and 3pm on DirectTV (local Hawaii time).
